A blockbuster kick-off to the AFL Premiership Season highlights the Sydney Swans 2022 fixture.

A huge Sydney Derby clash at Accor Stadium in the opening round, will be followed by a Friday night blockbuster at the SCG against Geelong, in the Swans first home game of the season.

In the first of the Club’s six total games in Melbourne for 2022, the Swans will take on the Western Bulldogs in a marquee Thursday night fixture at Marvel Stadium in Round 3.

Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said the fixture provided great excitement for all Swans fans heading into the 2022 season.

“There is no doubt we are kicking the season off with a bang,” Harley said.

“Our first home game of the year will be a blockbuster Friday night match at the SCG against Geelong, which will follow the season opening Sydney Derby at Accor Stadium. What a great way to celebrate the start of the AFL season in Sydney.

“In what the AFL has released so far, we have a great mix of timeslots for fans, from blockbuster night games to the popular day and twilight fixtures at the SCG. 

“After two challenging seasons, we are excited to welcome all our fans back to the footy in 2022 and membership will be best way for fans to ensure their ticket into the stands,” Harley said. 

The AFL today released the 2022 fixture, locking in the first nine rounds of the season, with just opponents and venues confirmed from round 10 onwards at this stage.

While timeslot details are yet to be confirmed, in line with the club’s formal request, the fixture provides the opportunity for a marquee Marn Grook at the SCG celebration against Richmond in Round 11.

Swans Heritage Week activity will centre around the Round 12 match against reigning premiers Melbourne at the MCG.

For the first time, the Club will be involved in Good Friday football, in a Round 5 away game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. That game will be followed by an ANZAC Day clash with Hawthorn in Tasmania in Round 6.
