Season 2022 is just around the corner, with 89 days until the Sydney Swans first match of the 2022 Premiership Season.
There's less time than that to see the Swans in action however with the AFL today releasing the pre-season games schedule.
In what will be a preview to the Round 1 Sydney Derby, the cross town rivals will meet in a NSW club scratch match, with the exact date and location to be confirmed, but will be held across one of the last two weekends in February.
Clubs will decide on venue, time, date and the format of each game including number of players, number of quarters, and quarter length.
The Swans will also play North Melbourne in an official AFL preseason fixture as part of the AAMI Community Series at GIANTS Stadium at Homebush on Sunday March 6th at 4.20pm.
The match will be a double header for AFL fans in Sydney with our cross town rivals, the GIANTS playing Collingwood earlier in the day at GIANTS Stadium.
There will be a minimum seven-day break between the pre-season practice match and the AAMI Community Series fixture.
Ticketing and match day information for both the matches will be communicated in the new year.
All 2022 AAMI Community Series matches will be broadcast live on FOX FOOTY and Kayo.
AFL Head of Broadcasting and Scheduling Marcus King said the league would continue with the model used in 2021 which sees teams play in a pre-season practice match prior to participating in the AAMI Community Series.
“The decision to proceed with this model was made in consultation with Clubs as we look to safeguard the health and safety of the competition and the community by minimising travel prior to the Toyota AFL Premiership Season. Equally, this arrangement provides clubs with the ability to determine individual requirements to best prepare for the season ahead,” Mr. King said.
“The AAMI Community Series plays an important role for both AFL clubs and supporters as we welcome fans back to each venue following an interrupted 2021 season as a result of the ongoing pandemic.”
