The Sydney Swans returned from their Christmas and New Years break late last week and midfielder Ollie Florent says the opening few days of training have ramped up in no time.

Florent has impressed in the time trials held throughout the pre-season thus far but spoke positively of the entire team who have shone in his eyes.

With the thought of pre-season games and the 2022 season quickly approaching, Florent welcomed the football focus to kick off the year.

“It was really good to be back with the boys, getting into it and it ramped up pretty quickly!” Florent said

“The boys are looking really fit at the moment which is good to see and we are looking forward to a nice block of training now.”

“It just feels like footy is getting closer, in regards to what drills we are doing now which are very much footy based,” Florent added.

“The coaches have backed us in to have a good off-season program where we come back fit, so it’s great that we can focus on our skills and our ball movement.”

Florent is undergoing his sixth pre-season with the Swans, having played 93 games since making his debut in 2017.

As he approaches in 100^th game milestone, the 23-year-old has a selfless approach to the year ahead.

Building on the success and progress shown during the 2021 campaign, Florent is aiming to continue to do what he can for the team in hopes for another year filled with success.

He is also excited about seeing the growth of his fellow teammates, including mid-field draftees Corey Warner, Matt Roberts and Angus Sheldrick and utility Lachlan Rankin.

“I am definitely aiming for team success again. I just want to be able to play my role through the midfield and wherever they need me,” Florent said.

“Obviously the long term goal is wanting to get to get to the top (like what Melbourne did last year) and hold up the cup but in the short term, it’s all about building off my pre-season and trying to stay as fit as possible over the next few weeks."

“The four draftees are all great individuals,” he added.

“They are obviously very raw coming in from day one but they have shown some real strengths out there and I cant wait to see them flourish over this next year and their early career.”

The midfielder played his second career finals game last season (his previous finals game was a defeat to the GWS Giants in 2018).

While the loss still lingers and drives Florent during the pre-season, the level headed midfielder is purely focused on the work required to do at this time of year.

“That is definitely what it felt like,” Florent said when asked of positives from 2021 but still having room to grow.

“Last year, we matched it with the top two teams, along with beating the Doggies.

“It obviously hurt to fall short against the Giants but there is something in you that lingers over the break and it definitely starts to come back to you now when you are training but that’s very much a long term goal and we have a lot to do before then.”

The Sydney Swans will face North Melbourne and the GWS Giants in the pre-season before kicking off their 2022 campaign with plenty of highlights members and fans can look forward to.
