Sydney Swans senior coach Dean says he expects his side to bounce back following a four-point loss to reigning Premiers Brisbane on Saturday afternoon. Cox spoke to SEN WA Breakfast with Simmo and Goss on Monday ahead of the Swans' trip west to face Fremantle this weekend.

The leader said the side was disappointed to fall short against the Lions and was determined to chalk up its first win of the season against the Dockers.

"It is really disappointing in the end, to have so many opportunities against a really good footy team and let it slide, so we need to make sure our contest work is up to scratch from last week but also our ability centre-forward really let us down," he said.

"We are well aware of what Fremantle can do and we will spend a lot of time analysing that, but not only that but what they did last year and in the pre-season.

"We go into a break after that so the players are well aware of the dynamic of what we need to do and hopefully we can get it done."

James Jordon impressed against the Hawks, recording 19 disposals and seven tackles, whilst holding Lions' on-baller and two-time Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale to 10 disposals.

Cox said the tagger had become an important part of the side's backline.

"The ability to get James to go to someone, whether it's during a game or whether we start with it, it's a great thing to have," Cox said.

"To be able to stay on task and be able to do it for the full duration, to keep him to 10 touches and two clearances and have 18 himself - he's really important for us."

Fremantle will come into Sunday's clash off a 78-point loss to Geelong but Cox said the side was wary of the threat that Fremantle's midfield could pose.

They are the decisions we continue to have, who do we go to and what does our midfield dynamic look like, so those are the conversations we always have.

"We understand that both of those players (Caleb Serong and Angus Brayshaw) are very dangerous for Fremantle as well as Hayden Young when he plays and the like.

"They have a very strong midfield group and we expect them to come out and play the footy they've shown over a number of years."

Sydney takes on Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Sunday from 3:10pm local time and 6.10pm AEDT.
