Emerging rookie Nic Newman has been rewarded for an outstanding season with a new two-year deal topped off by a forthcoming elevation to the senior list.
Newman, chosen in the 2015 Rookie Draft, has been one of the best performed players in this year's NEAFL season averaging 27.8 disposals across the half-back line which fittingly earn a spot in the league's coveted Team of the Year.
His season came off the back off two appearances for the Sydney Swans in this year's pre-season competition.
The extension ties the 23-year-old to the Sydney Swans until at least the end of 2018.
"I'm rapt," Newman told SwansTV. "I've always wanted to stay here and to be upgraded onto the main list is something I have been pushing for."
Newman was a standout in Sunday's grand final and was presented with the Andrew Ireland Medal as the player judged best-on-ground, bittersweet reward in the heartbreaking loss to GWS.
Having spent two seasons toiling hard for an opportunity, Newman is now a significant step closer to that senior berth.
"From last year to this year there's been a massive improvement in my football. Working closely with (NEAFL coach) Rhyce Shaw has been huge for me," he added.
"Obviously I haven't played any senior games yet but I think in terms of my football it has gone to another level.
"I'm really looking forward to coming back and getting stuck into another pre-season. Knowing I'm here for another couple of years - it's a really good opportunity."
Newman joins a host of other Swans to have signed on this season, that list featuring Kieren Jack, Nick Smith, Luke Parker, Gary Rohan, Jeremy Laidler, Harry Cunningham, Dan Robinson, George Hewett, Aliir Aliir, Jake Lloyd and Tom Papley.
