Sydney Swans defender Michael Talia has ramped up his rehabilitation from a fracture in his foot as he aims to return to the field before the end of the season.

The 23-year-old was sidelined after suffering the injury late in the Swans’ Round 1 win over Collingwood. He will continue to increase his training load in the coming weeks.

General Manager of Football Tom Harley said Talia was progressing well from what was a serious injury.

“Michael Talia has had a retched run since he broke his foot in Round 1 and has been on the long term injury list,” Harley said.

“He ran on the grass for the first time last Friday which is a really positive step for him.

“There are still a number of hurdles he has to overcome as there is the rehab running then the running for condition to return to play.

“We haven’t put a finite return to play date on Michael but we take the positive that he is in full weight bearing running on grass since last Friday so that is good news.”

Harry Marsh has resumed running duties and is on track to return to the field within the next fortnight as he recovers from a hamstring strain.

“Harry Marsh won’t play this week but he is recovering well,” Harley said.

“The plan is that he will return to training next week and we will assess later on next week.”

Dan Robinson is also continuing to increase his workload after undergoing reconstructive shoulder surgery as he increases his running program.

Robinson remains a strong chance to return to football this season despite being on the long term injury list.
