The Swans reserves have posted a strong win over 2010 premiers Ainslie to continue their unbeaten streak.
Playing their NEAFL game in Newcastle to help support and promote football in the region, the Swans ran out 50-point winners, 154 to 74.
Coach Henry Playfair said his players started well and kept up the pressure in the second and third terms to establish a big lead before tiring in the final quarter.
Campbell Heath, who had LARS knee reconstruction surgery in January, had an excellent game in defence in what was his first full match since he returned from injury two weeks ago.
Heath played in defence and impressed Playfair. “Campbell had a really good game down back,’’ Playfair said.
The Swans midfielders were also on their game today, with Dylan McNeil, Jarred Moore and Brett Meredith all picking up plenty of possessions. Eugene Kruger, who was put on the Swans rookie list this year after giving up rugby and athletics for AFL, had his best game this season.
Trent Dennis-Lane kicked six goals and Paul Bevan contributed three goals.
The reserves fielded four young Swans Academy players who hail from the Central Coast, Newcastle and NSW north coast region, and Playfair said they all made a valuable contribution and had strong local support at the Newcastle No. 1 Sportsground.
“Brendan Norton was very good, he took some strong marks in the forward line and kicked two goals and it was great to have the local boys in the team today,’’ Playfair said.
Jesse White left the field in the second term with an ankle problem, leaving Daniel Currie to ruck in tandem with Nathan Gordon - who can now add “spare parts ruckman’’ to his resume.
