JARRED Moore talks to sydneyswans.com.au about the way the team finished off 2010, the impact of the younger players and his areas of improvement for 2011...
What were the high points of the season for you?
Definitely the way we finished the year as a team. We were really confident there for six or seven weeks and playing some really good football.
What turned it that way?
Losing to Melbourne definitely turned it around. We were down in the dumps there for a couple of weeks and we sat back as a group and decided that wasn’t good enough.
What about you personally. What did you think was your best achievement?
I think I started the year pretty well, just being able to get some consistency at the start of the year was good. But I went through some injury problems, with an ankle that troubled me for about six weeks. I was carrying it from round three but it was a reasonably consistent year for me.
What are your thoughts on what the team can achieve in 2011?
Just the way we responded for the last six or seven weeks of 2010 was really positive and we got a lot out of our young guys and they developed well, like Sam Reid and Jetta. I think you’ll see a lot more of Reidy in 2011, even though he only played one game in 2010, he definitely has a future. He did everything he was asked to do and was able to play a senior game when probably no-one would have thought that at the start of the year.
Did you enjoy seeing most of the 2009 draft picks play senior footy?
They definitely earned their spots, which is crucial. It is pretty rare for new guys to come in and make such an impact so it was great to see.
You got added to the leadership group halfway through the year. How important was that for you?
It’s a good high, a good personal thing. It’s obviously good to be voted in to the leadership group and be respected.
What are the areas of your game you want to get better at?
Fitness for sure, and that will be a focus over the break and in the pre-season. I’ll be doing a lot of running. That is number one and it is the same every year.
I did come in a lot fitter and fresher at the start of this year but wasn’t able to keep that going. The ankle didn’t help.
Which of your team-mates impressed you?
Benny McGlynn had a really good year. He added a lot to the team and showed a lot of courage. Kieren Jack had a really consistent year and I thought that was really good for him.
What will you do during the break?
I will go to Amsterdam, and I might see Nick Smith over there. Other than that I will hang out down in Victoria for a while and see family and friends.
