A young die-hard Swans fan with muscular dystrophy realised “an amazing opportunity” when he met his favourite players at the SCG on Wednesday.
Twelve-year-old Pierce Burns travelled from Canberra with his dad and sister to watch the Swans train.
Burns met a host of Swans, including Lance Franklin, Jarrad McVeigh and Isaac Heeney, and was presented a guernsey signed by the entire team.
Muscular dystrophy is a genetic disorder in which muscles progressively degenerate, in some cases leading to an inability to walk, swallow and breathe.
Burns has lived in a wheelchair since he was a three-year-old but his massive passion for the Swans puts a smile on his face.
Swans great Michael O’Loughlin, who is an ambassador for muscular dystrophy, organised for Burns to meet his favourite Swans when he saw a photo on Twitter.
The 303-game Swans champion said the visit meant a lot to the young boy.
“The young fella’s been through a pretty rough ride and it was a small token to be able to bring him in and he’s had a ball,” O’Loughlin said.
“For him to come here and meet his favourite team and his favourite players is an amazing opportunity for him.”
