Lance Franklin and Jake Lloyd have been named in the 40-man All Australian extended squad. 

Both players will be vying to make the final team to be named in Melbourne on Wednesday night.

Franklin will be aiming for a remarkable eighth All Australian and his fourth since joining the Swans.

The star forward booted 57 goals from 18 matches this season and averages 13.1 kicks, 2.4 handballs and 6.9 marks.

The nomination is the first selection in the extended squad for midfielder Jake Lloyd who played all 22 matches this season.

Lloyd has averaged a career high 28.3 disposals, 18.4 kicks and 9.9 handballs during the season.

Franklin would join Gary Ablett Jnr as the only modern day player to achieve eight All Australian honours if he is selected.

The All Australian squad has been selected by Gillon McLachlan (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Steve Hocking, Glen Jakovich, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson and Warren Tredrea.

The final 22 will be revealed on Wednesday evening.
