The nominees for the 2022 AFL Players’ Association’s Most Valuable Player Awards have been revealed.
Voting for the AFLPA MVP – who will receive the Leigh Matthews Trophy – along with the Most Courageous, Best First-Year Player, and Best Captain awards is a two-stage process, with players nominating their teammates in stage one before selecting from a competition-wide field in stage two.
Players cannot vote for a player from their own club during stage two of the voting process.
The AFL Players’ Association will recognise the achievements of the award winners in an industry-wide event telecast on Fox Footy on Wednesday, August 24.
The nominees from the Sydney Swans are:
Best Captain – Callum Mills, Dane Rampe, Luke Parker
BFYP – Matthew Roberts
Most Courageous – Paddy McCartin
MVP – Callum Mills, Chad Warner, Isaac Heeney
Of Sydney’s current team Isaac Heeney (2015), Callum Mills (2016), and Errol Gulden (2021) have previously won Best First Year Player, while Luke Parker (2015 and 2016) and Dane Rampe (2020) have previously won the Robert Rose Most Courageous Award.
