Sydney Swans veteran Jarrad McVeigh is set to be available for selection this week after making positive progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
McVeigh has not played since Round 12 after suffering the injury late in the win over West Coast.
But Head of Football Charlie Gardiner said the 34-year-old would be selected if fit to take on Carlton.
“Jarrad looks like he will be available this week which is fantastic for selection,” Gardiner said.
“Where he plays this week I don’t know, but he will certainly be putting his hand up.”
Star forward Lance Franklin is still a couple of weeks away from a return to football but has taken steps in the right direction on the training track this week.
“Lance has run solidly this week. He has had two strong running sessions which is positive,” Gardiner said.
“As is always the case with Lance, we will just have to see how he progresses in the next few weeks, and we are keen to have him back as soon as possible.
“He does have to get through some training as he has had an interrupted season so far, so that is something that we really have to be mindful of.
“I can’t say at this stage when he will be back, but we are hoping it will be in the next couple of weeks.”
