Aaron Francis will pull on the red and white in 2023, with the Sydney Swans securing a trade with Essendon for the versatile swingman on the final day of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

Francis joins the club following the completion of a deal with Essendon involving the Swans future 4th round selection and a swap of selections 37 and 42.

Originally from West Adelaide, Francis was taken at pick 6 overall in the 2015 National Draft. He played 54 games for the Bombers.

Francis enjoyed a career best season in 2019 where he played in 17 games, averaging 14 disposals and 5 marks. The previous season he earnt a rising star nomination after his performance against Richmond in Round 22.

The 25-year-old will provide the Swans with versatility in being able to play in both defence and attack.

“Aaron is a player we identified as a priority to bring in during the trade period. We believe he has the talent and attributes to improve our team and provides added flexibility in our key position roles.

Francis said he was excited to start a new chapter in Sydney.

“Hopefully I can provide some support in defence, and the coaching staff are really keen for me to realise my potential.
