Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper and senior coach John Longmire provided an update on the injury list ahead of Round 2.
General Overview
Hot and humid conditions greeted the players on the Gold Coast for the first round of the 2023 AFL Premiership Season. The team has recovered well with the eight-day break leading into our first home game against Hawthorn on Sunday at the SCG. There were minimal concerns from both the AFL and VFL matches.
In the VFL practice match, Joel Amartey, Marc Sheather and Lewis Melican all returned for their first games of the season and completed them without issues.
Sam Reid
Sam Reid sustained a glute injury in the game against Carlton. He continues to have mild symptoms and is yet to return to full training. As a result, Sam is unavailable for selection for this week's game against Hawthorn.
"Reid is a few weeks away from returning," Longmire said. "We want to him to get some good training under his belt before we play him."
Rehab Update
The rehab group of Hickey, Fox, Clarke, Konstanty and Wicks continue to make progress with their individual rehabilitation. Fox and Clarke are aiming to commence team skills this week, whilst Hickey, Konstanty and Clarke are all completing straight line running and conditioning and remain a few weeks away from returning to team training.
