The South Australian capital, Adelaide is a buzz with footy fever as the inaugural 'Gather Round' kicked off in the city of churches last night.
The club has a large and loyal supporter base in South Australia and are relishing the chance to host as the club plays a 'home' fixture against Richmond at a sold out Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
Jeanette Casey and Peter Doukas are two of these supporters and are the coordinators of the SA Sydney Swan Supporters Group.
They were two of the hundreds of South Australian fans who headed to St Peter's College yesterday in Adelaide as the club hosted an open Captain's Run session with the ground flooded with red and white.
"It was great to have the Captain’s Run on Thursday and have the opportunity to meet the players as this is a very rare opportunity for the dedicated South Australian supporters," Casey said.
"It was a huge turnout which shows the depth of support the club has here in SA".
The South Australian Swans supporter group has been running for over 20 years and Casey said the group is continuously growing.
"We have a diverse group of supporters who all come together and have fun and support each other in enemy territory. There’s always someone ready to jump in and help out, and to welcome new members," Casey said.
"Each week we get together at the Alma Tavern to watch games and cheer the team on together. The manager there, Simon is an avid Swans supporter and ensures we are always well looked after there!"
Alongside the Swans yearly appearances in Adelaide and the weekly pub meet ups, the group has several events that are highlights on their calendar.
"We also have our annual country pub fireplace lunch and that match is another favourite event where we get to enjoy some local wines with the game," Casey said.
"Our annual Christmas dinner is always popular and attended by many past Swans players too and we have had several other events over the years with past players including Ryan O’Keefe, Marty Mattner, Scott Direen, James Rose, Greg Smith and many more as guest speakers which has been great."
The club are looking forward to seeing plenty of red and white in Adelaide this weekend and if any members and fans in South Australia are interested in joining the group, get in touch with Jeanette and Peter via the you Facebook page or through email on swanssa@outlook.com.
