Sydney Swans forward Ben McGlynn has been ruled out of Friday night’s Preliminary Final clash with Collingwood at ANZ Stadium.

McGlynn, who suffered a hamstring strain in the Swans’ Qualifying Final win over Adelaide a fortnight ago, has not been able to recover in time for this weekend’s home final.

Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said McGlynn’s recovery had not progressed as quickly as he would have hoped.

“It’s about eight or nine days now since he was injured and things are progressing along,” Cameron told SwansTV.

“He’s not going to be available this weekend, unfortunately, but he is making progress and we will reassess things on the weekend.

“At this stage he’s not ready to team train and that makes him unavailable.”

But Cameron did not dismiss McGlynn from making a recovery ahead of the final weekend in September, should the Swans progress through this weekend.

“If we do get through to that weekend, there is still another ten days to go and he is certainly making progress,” Cameron said.

Meanwhile, there were positive prognoses for both Jarred Moore and Tommy Walsh who suffered injuries in last weekend’s NEAFL Eastern Conference Grand Final.

Cameron said Walsh would be fit to train with the team this week after suffering a leg injury early in Sunday’s final.

“Tommy Walsh got a knock to his lower leg, which caused him to come off, but it was only really a temporary-type thing,” he said.

“He was able to resume and (the reserves) finished him up a little bit early to ensure he is able to fully train this week, and we’re expecting him to full train tomorrow.”

Cameron added that Moore should also return to training this week after pulling up sore with a groin injury following Sunday’s clash.

“Jarred Moore had some groin pain so he unfortunately had to finish the game up forward and was a bit restricted by the end,” he said.

“He’s been sore the last couple of days but seeing him today he’s improving and he’s talking up his chances of training with the team but we’ll reassess him tomorrow.”
