It was sibling rivalry at its best.
Sydney Swan Zak Jones up against his older brother in Melbourne captain Nathan Jones for the very first time, with premiership points up for grabs.
And it was the younger brother who took the honours.
In the lead up to Sunday’s match at the SCG, the pair talked openly about their relationship and how their backyard clashes would always go the way of Nathan.
The tables turned over the weekend however as Zak, who was named among the Swans’ best, helped his side claim a 55-point victory over Nathan’s Demons.
“It was definitely good to get the win over the bro,” he said.
“I got a few hits on him as well which was an even better feeling.
“Two days before the game there’s hardly any contact, but leading up to the week all is normal. After the game we speak again.
“I’m actually staying at his house for a couple of days during the break so that should be interesting – we’ll see how that goes.”
It has been widely judged as Zak Jones’ best game, after the speedy defender collected 25 disposals as well as four rebound 50s and five tackles.
It was the 21-year-old’s eighth consecutive game of a brief but promising 26-game career; Sunday’s effort proving he’s becoming more and more settled across half-back.
“My form has been pretty good,” Jones added. “I’ve just been focusing on nothing else but consistency.”
