Kieren Jack, Nick Smith and Nick Malceski are all possible inclusions for Saturday night’s match against the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium.
All three were present this afternoon for the Swans first training session of the week, and Club physiotherapist Matt Cameron is confident they will all get through the week and take the field on Saturday night.
“They’ve all improved. They ran today, will be training Thursday, and should be right (to play), all three of them,” Cameron told SwansTV.
Smith was a late withdrawal from the side which faced Adelaide last Saturday night due to hamstring tightness, while Jack (ankle) and Malceski (groin) always loomed as one week lay-offs.
Midfielder Craig Bird is in doubt to face the Suns after being subbed off following a knock to the back of his knee late in the third quarter of the loss to the Crows.
“As well as getting some bruising in his calf, he actually twisted his knee slightly,” Cameron said.
“We’re thinking he is unlikely to play this week, he needs to improve quite a bit before the end of the week - if he does he’s a chance, but more than likely it’s going to be another week.”
Gary Rohan and Mike Pyke recently resumed playing in the reserves after lengthy spells on the sidelines, but both have suffered set-backs in the past week.
Rohan injured his left hamstring towards the end of his scheduled playing time in last weekend’s reserves win over Tuggeranong and will miss two weeks.
Pyke made it through his first competitive game, but re-injured his quad in last week’s first training session and is set to miss up to six weeks.
Cameron revealed that Swans youngster Jed Lamb’s rehab from a spate of hamstring injuries is progressing well and was hopeful that he would be able to playing in a couple of weeks’ time.
“He sprinted yesterday, and he starts training this week, and being younger we’ll give him a couple of weeks of training to make sure he’s fully right to go,” he said.
