Sydney Swans co-captain Josh Kennedy will train with his teammates on Wednesday afternoon in a bid to prove his fitness for Friday night’s match against Collingwood.
Kennedy was a late withdrawal from the side that defeated North Melbourne, as he battled some quad soreness in the lead up to the match.
Head of Football Charlie Gardiner said the 30-year-old’s availability hinges on the training session at the SCG.
“We are assessing him this week,” Gardiner said.
“He is scheduled to train tomorrow in our main session and provided he gets through that session I am expecting him to play.
“He has to get through training and we will make a call after that.”
Star forward Lance Franklin will also train with the side as he looks to return for Friday night’s blockbuster against Collingwood.
Veteran Jarrad McVeigh is also nearing a return as he recovers from a quad strain that has seen him on the sidelines since Round 3.
“Jarrad is tracking really well in his recovery from a quad strain, he is in solid training at the moment,” Gardiner said.
“We expect he could be available as soon as next week potentially, so that is some good news and we look forward to seeing him back soon.”
Scans have confirmed speedster Zak Jones will miss up to three weeks with a hamstring strain suffered in the second quarter of Saturday’s win over North Melbourne.
