Swans ruck Brodie Grundy spoke to the media at Open Captain's Run on Thursday at Unley Oval.  Hear what he had to say about the team's clash with Collingwood on Friday night, the team's youth and whole squad mentality.

On Friday's game

"It's really exciting, we're still quite early into the season. It's great to be back in Adelaide, my hometown, playing against Collingwood, it will be a great contest, and it's good to be playing Friday night footy."

On the whole squad mentality

"I suppose from an injury perspective, we haven't spent too much time commenting on, oh geez, we're lacking Errol or we're lacking Justin, we've had a really strong squad mentality. Coxy and the leadership group are doing a fantastic job of just galvanising the team."

On Sam Wicks

"He's a player that we've celebrated internally, his role change and just the energy, that's what we want to play with and we want to bring."

On the team's youth

"Riley Bice is another one who's just burst onto the scene, it's been fantastic, I know the Swans fans and members will be really buoyed seeing what he can do. Matty Roberts off the back line, there's so many good young players in our team and as a senior head now, it gives me great joy to see them develop."

On Riley Bice

"In pre-season he showed elements of that, obviously we can see the offensive side of his game is there but to be able to see it at AFL level, three games in, it's just so damaging. It's like a Nick Blakey 2.0, which is incredible to be able to have that calibre of talent be able to come into our team. It's a shout-out to our recruiting staff and what they've been able to do because he's a real talent offensively, but also defensively, he's playing his role and shutting down good offensive players as well."

On competing against the best rucks in the competition

"The competition now, it's so good broadly speaking, the team-wise, but then the ruck role. The talent and the competitiveness, I don't think it's ever been this good, there were three of the rucks in the All-Australian squad last year, and Xerri and Darcy the last two weeks were in that. I love competing against the best, and they were right up there last year."

Sydney v Collingwood is sold out and will take place from 7:10pm local time (7:40pm AEST). Tune in via Channel 7, Kayo and Fox Footy from 7:30pm AEST.
