Sydney coach John Longmire is too experienced to be spooked and will keep his team upbeat despite a second straight defeat to start the season.

The Swans went down to Adelaide by 26 points at the SCG on Friday night as their home ground woes continued, with Sydney now having won just five of their past 13 matches at the venue.

While Longmire's side was well beaten in the midfield in their loss to the Western Bulldogs last week, they turned things around against the Crows after another poor start.

The Swans again struggled to apply scoreboard pressure and their skills both coming out of defence and going forward were woeful at times.

Despite the loss, Longmire and his team won't be drawn into any panic.

"There's no tricks in this game, when you've been in it a while you know you just need to work through it," Longmire said post-match.

"It's just shoulder to the grindstone (kind of stuff).

"We fixed up some of the areas we didn't get right last week with our midfield in particular but made too many fundamental skill errors.

"Missed handballs, dropped marks, basic spoiling, and they kicked four goals from centre bounces even though the ball was kicked in pretty high at times when our mids most of the time were able to put pressure on those entries.

"I thought we competed better which is what we wanted going into the game, and at different times we got right back into the game from just competing, but a lack of polish really hurt us.

"The effort was better, but the execution wasn't there."

One bright point for the Swans on Friday night was the encouraging form of superstar forward Lance Franklin.

The veteran booted three goals – which included two vintage bombs from the boundary line - in his second game back from off-season groin surgery while opposed to Daniel Talia.

"He just competes so hard that bloke," Longmire said.

"He was able to look free with his kicking and he hasn't been like that since he had the operation last year, so that’s as freely as he's moved and kicked (this year)."
