A record total has been raised for the Sydney Swans charity partner Redkite this year through the club's annual Redkite Day at which this year was held on May 13 at the SCG.
The club have been on Redkite’s team for 23 years, supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer through our annual match day and this year has raised a record amount of $43,528 for these children and their families.
Both the Sydney Swans and Redkite would like to thank everyone who donated to Redkite through online and at-match donations.
Included in the total amount was a donation of $5000 from the AFL playing group from the AFL Players Care fund which is the AFLPA official charity initiative which was established in 2014.
The club and Redkite would also like to recognise the Swans Premier Partner Qatar Airways who ran a competition for anyone who donated over $25 to win return Qatar Airways’ flights to operated destinations worldwide and also Merivale who also got behind Redkite Day by asking attendees to add a donation when purchasing food and beverage throughout the SCG on Redkite Day.
A significant amount was also raised through 'The Swannies' - a special auction of Sydney Swans player portraits, drawn by kids with cancer and their friends and we thank everyone who made a bid on these heartwarming pieces of art.
Redkite CEO Monique Keighery thanked the Sydney Swans for their ongoing support.
“As we celebrate 23 years of partnership with the Sydney Swans, I celebrate and thank the amazing Swans team, members, fans, partners and the broader community for showing kids with cancer they have an incredible team behind them," Keighery said.
“Our Redkite Day fundraising is an amazing achievement and the funds raised will have a significant impact. The kids and families have never needed our support than right now, relying on Redkite’s vital mental health, financial and practical support as they take on the challenge of childhood cancer.”
The club and Redkite would also like to thank children's group, The Wiggles, who entertained the crowd and brought plenty of energy to the SCG on 2023 Redkite Day.
Stay tuned to Sydney Swans channels later in the year when the club and Redkite will have an online auction in place for the club's AFLW team portraits.
