The Sydney Swans will remain unchanged for Saturday night’s clash against Gold Coast.
The Swans will take on the Suns at Metricon Stadium with the same side which defeated the previously undefeated North Melbourne by 26 points at the SCG.
It is the first time this season – the first time since Round 11, 2015, in fact – the Swans have made zero changes.
Coach John Longmire said there was much to like about the current side.
“We were obviously happy with the performance last week,” Longmire said.
“But we know another challenge presents itself this week, particularly Gold Coast who’ll have a number of changes.”
Gold Coast are expected to bolster their playing stocks which will keep the Swans’ coaching staff thinking right up to the 7.25pm opening bounce.
He added: “We always focus on both. We look at what the opposition do and then we look at our strengths and weaknesses in order to get the balance right.”
Sam Reid was thrown into the selection mix earlier in the week, but will spend another week with the NEAFL Swans after selectors decided against recalling the key forward after just one run at the lower level.
First-gamer Harrison Marsh, the sixth debutant blooded this season, retains his spot after collecting 12 disposals against the Roos.
Wet weather footy is on the cards with heavy rainfall expected to fall across southern Queensland over the weekend.
“We obviously talk to the players about it. We had a little bit of rain during the week at training, not much, nothing to probably prepare us for what’s been forecast for Saturday night,” Longmire added.
“But whether it’s rain, hail or shine we’ve just got to make sure we play a good, contested brand of footy. If it absolutely belts down it really becomes a game of territory.”
The Swans have won all six previous encounters against Gold Coast, with four of those played at Metricon Stadium.
