The Sydney Swans and Collingwood descend on Adelaide Oval on Friday night for a blockbuster Gather Round contest, with both teams in good form.

The Pies are coming off a 17-point win over Carlton, while the Swans easily accounted for North Melbourne in their Round 4 contest by 65 points.

Josh Daicos was outstanding against the Blues with 31 disposals, while veterans Steele Sidebottom (24 touches) and Scott Pendlebury (29 disposals) turned back the clock, to be among Collingwood’s best.

Collingwood, however, will be without the injured pair of Jordan DeGoey and Lachie Schultz while Dan Houston will miss the match after being suspended for a high bump.

Will Hoskin-Elliott and Mason Cox could earn their spot back in the senior side, as could youngster Ed Allan for Friday night.

The last time these two sides met was back in Round 22 last season at the SCG, in what was one of the matches of the season.

On that occasion the Swans prevailed by just three points, having trailed by as much as 27-points in the final term. Chad Warner and Isaac Heeney got the Swans over the line that night, while the Daicos brothers starred for the visitors.

Collingwood coach Craig McRae says he’s expecting tagger James Jordon to play a close-checking role on midfield star Nick Daicos at Adelaide Oval.

“We anticipate he (Jordon) will go to Nick; he’s played on him before, we just want to make sure we get Nick in the best position to play for us,” McRae said.

“If that means sometimes, he sacrifices his role for others, Nick will do that for us. It might mean we need to be smart and strategic with where we play Nick at times.

“Nick is normally first in on Monday mornings looking at tape of the opposition, whether it’s James Jordon or someone else who is going to play on him.

“If you watch him train he trains at another level, so he’s (Jordon) going to have to bring his runners come Friday night because Nick will be running,” McRae said.

First bounce on Friday night is 7.10pm local time at Adelaide Oval.
