Sydney Swans captain Josh Kennedy believes the disappointment of Saturday’s loss to GWS will linger with him to a ‘long time’.

After finishing sixth on the ladder, the Swans season came to a close with a 49-point loss in the second elimination final at the SCG.

Kennedy highlighted the contested ball and tackle count as two key areas that cost his side.

“We didn’t implement a lot of things that we wanted to going into the game and the ball movement was one aspect,” Kennedy said.

“It was our lowest tackle count for a number of weeks which is really disappointing.

“We touched on contested footy and it is funny how the ball movement and everything else generally flows from that.

“It is something that I will wear as I want to set the tone there, but we were well beaten.”

The Swans lost the contested possession count 125 to 163 in an area that the midfield prides its game on.

“We were beaten in most areas across the ground,” he said.

“I don’t think we had too many winners in their positons.

“The contested footy is one area that continued to put numbers on us and that was really disappointing.”

Kennedy said he was very frustrated with how the season had ended.

“It was really disappointing,” Kennedy said.

“We have let a lot of people down tonight; fans first and foremost, ourselves and also our families.” 

“I really thought that we could go a lot better so the disappointment will linger for a long time.”
