The Sydney Swans are expected to welcome key forward Sam Reid back from injury for Saturday night’s Sydney Derby against GWS.
Reid hasn’t played since the pre-season after being a late withdrawal in Round 1 with a tight hamstring.
Head of Football Tom Harley said he expected to see Reid return to the field to face the Giants.
“Sam was really close to selection leading up to the game on the weekend so we are expecting him to get through training,” Harley said.
“Provided he gets through training he will play, and he will be a welcome addition to the side.
“He had a good year last year and we look forward to him contributing in 2018.”
Midfielder Dan Hannebery is also expected to face the Giants after being cleared of any serious knee damage from an incident that occurred late in Sunday’s loss.
Hannebery left the field and after having scans has been cleared to take on the cross-town rivals.
“Dan suffered a knock to his knee in the last couple of minutes of the game, but he has recovered well,” Harley said.
“We fully expect him to get through training and play.
“It was the same type of knock that he received in the 2016 Grand Final so it was hearts in mouths for a little bit.
“Dan is a resilient player and we are expecting him to be right for Saturday night.”
Aliir Aliir (ankle) is also expected to return to football this weekend with Zak Jones (calf) to be monitored at training before a final decision is made on his fitness.
