Retiring midfielder Dennis Armfield will receive his farewell game after replacing forward Jack Silvagni in Carlton's squad ahead of Saturday's clash at the SCG.
Silvagni won't play due to a shoulder injury, a sore spot he's had surgery on this week, opening the door for Armfield to step in for his 145th and final AFL game.
A loyal servant over 10 seasons, the 30-year-old was the only change for the Blues' final match of 2017.
"In terms of a cultural fit, he's been fantastic for us as a footy club," coach Brendan Bolton told AFL.com.au at the airport on Friday.
"And he's shown a lot of our youngsters what it means to be a Carlton footy player in terms of off-field behaviours."
Carlton held an open training session at the SCG on Friday in preparation for the clubs' second meeting of the season.
Sydney and Carlton have experienced contrasting formlines since last time, the latter dishing out the Swans' sixth consecutive loss of the season back in Round 6.
That game has been described as the 'turning point' in the Swans' season. Since then they've won 13 of their next 15 matches to lock away a finals spot.
Blues defender Sam Docherty says he's excited for the challenge and eager to finish the season on a high.
"We rate the Swans as one of the best teams in the competition," he told Carlton's website earlier this week.
"Their contested brand of football and the way they go about it is unrivalled.
"We know it's going to be tough and uncompromising.
"We're excited about going up there hoping our brand of football can stand up against one of the premiership contenders."
Carlton is in solid form. Bolton described last weekend's win over Hawthorn as "emotional nourishment" and rightly so, given it was their first victory over the Hawks for 12 years.
While Carlton's midfield is the engine room, its forward line has proven a handful in recent weeks with Levi Casboult's strong form complimented by the emergence of Charlie Curnow and Jarrrod Pickett.
But they'll have their hands full trying to thwart the competition's best defence.
At the other end of the ground, improved defender Liam Jones is set to line up alongside Lance Franklin with the latter needing a big afternoon in front of goal to give himself a shot at the Coleman Medal.
