Ben McGlynn will return to the side for Saturday night’s blockbuster clash with Collingwood at ANZ Stadium.

McGlynn, who is the Swans’ leading goal kicker with 24 goals for the season, will slot straight back into the side after serving a three-match suspension for striking GWS’s Tom Scully in round 16.

The 28-year-old has also overcome a hamstring injury which saw him subbed out of the same match three weeks’ ago.

Making way for McGlynn is Jed Lamb, who has played ten senior games since making his debut in round six this season.

Swans coach John Longmire said McGlynn’s scoring ability and defensive pressure would be welcomed assets for the Swans in Saturday night’s match.

“He was a really important player for us before he went out through suspension,” Longmire told SwansTV.

“His pressure, importantly, in our front half is excellent and his chasing and tackling puts the opposition under pressure, which is critical for us, but then his ability to hit the scoreboard has been a key component.

“He’s been leading our goal kicking, so the combination of those two factors means he is an important player to get back in.”

Longmire said Lamb, who has kicked five goals in the last three matches, was unlucky to miss out on selection this week but was confident the 20-year-old would push for more senior chances this season.

“We’ve been really pleased with how Jed’s gone and it’s a case of whilst he might miss out this week, there’s plenty of footy to be played yet,” Longmire said.

“I’m sure that he’ll be back in a pretty short period of time and we’re looking forward to capitalising on the good work he’s already done.

“He’s been pretty good for us and I’m sure he’s going to play a pretty important role for us going forward.”

Following Collingwood’s dominant 79-point victory over Essendon at the MCG last Sunday, Longmire said he was expecting high-pressure football at ANZ Stadium this weekend.

“What we saw last week was Collingwood at their best. They beat Essendon by 80 points and they had 80 tackles,” he said.

“They brought their pressure game and put Essendon under enormous pressure and they’ve got enormous talent.

“They’ve got some of the best midfielders going around in the competition and they’ve got a couple of power forwards in Travis Cloke, and they’ve also put Ben Reid forward now who gives them another look in their forward half.”

Longmire said Ted Richards, who will celebrate his 200th AFL game this weekend, will have an important task against the Collingwood key forwards.

“He’s been a fantastic player for us since he came from Essendon,” Longmire said.

“He’s had his ups and downs, both before he got here and when he was here as well, but he turned himself into a critical key defender by looking at the competition’s best players over the course of a couple of years and applying himself to what they did.

“He’s been able to do that on a consistent basis and his last year was sensational and he’s had a pretty consistent year as well.

“On Saturday night there is no doubt that he’s going to be a key component in how competitive we are.”
