IT was his 30th birthday yesterday and Jude Bolton has had almost all the gifts he's wanted during this pre-season.

Last Friday night's win over the Kangaroos gave the Sydney Swans three wins from four during the pre-season circuit, with the only loss being the one-point defeat at the hands of grand finalists St Kilda.

Bolton, who has been at the Club since he was a rosy-cheeked teenager, can't recall a better pre-season during his time in Sydney.

"We haven't been in a position where we have won three of four pre-season games so you have to say it has been a really positive period," Bolton said.

"The guys are really fit and healthy and we're excited and ready for round one against St Kilda at ANZ Stadium. It has been a good long haul and we are ready to take it on.

"We've worked on a lot of chemistry over the period and hopefully it will keep improving."

Like most people, Bolton has been impressed by the new additions to the Club and is enjoying having the big-bodied ex-Hawk Josh Kennedy beside him in the midfield.

"Josh has been fantastic. The strength of his body around the stoppages has been critical for us. He has been really good all pre-season in terms of shaking off tacklers and drawing other guys to him and still being able to feed off, so that has been a real positive‚" Bolton said.

The presence of Kennedy, and another ex-Hawk, Ben McGlynn, has added depth to the midfield and given the coaches more flexibility.

On Friday night Ryan O'Keefe rotated between the midfield and half forward, and ended the night with four goals.

McGlynn got the tagging job on Kangaroos‚ champion Brent Harvey and earned high praise.

"It is great having the rotations and options that we do have now through the midfield," Bolton said.

"It has been great to bring different elements to the team this year. Lewis Jetta, Gary Rohan and McGlynn have leg speed to burn. And now Kieren Jack has been getting a bit more of a licence, a bit more of a free run, because he has had a lot of tough tagging roles in the past.

"It is good to have those guys with pace, and if we can feed it out to them and open things up a little bit more down the field, it will be good."

To top it off, Adam Goodes had his best game of the pre-season, grabbing plenty of marks in the forward line.

But Bolton isn't celebrating just yet - either his 30th birthday or the team's recent form. "It's Monday night, I'm going home for a quiet one!"

His best present will be to see a huge crowd of Swans fans cheering on the team at ANZ Stadium for the blockbuster season opener against St Kilda on March 27.
