The rookie defender once again battled injuries throughout the 2016 season at NEAFL level.
Into his second season on the list he continued to show strong signs of what he could become across the half back line in particular late in the season.
After missing a chunk of pre-season he also was on the sidelines for a significant number of matches through the middle of the season due to a hamstring injury.
Melican has shown he is a versatile defender with an ability to player on a taller opponent or something with pace.
He can run and use the ball off the half back line with a strong intercept mark making him an asset to the NEAFL Swans finals campaign.
In his own words
“As the season progressed I started to play some good footy again before I was struck down with the hamstring injury for about seven weeks. I came back after that and played some of the best footy that I have played since joining the Club.” Lewis Melican on SwansTV
