Sydney’s one and only Friday night fixture for the season was well received by Swans’ fans, with a season-high crowd attendance at the SCG.

A crowd of 27,400 turned out to see the Swans win their ninth match of the season, in a nail-biting six-point win over the reigning premiers, Geelong.

Fans made the pilgrimage from workplaces all over the city, from local pubs and from Central Station to see what turned out to be one of the most exciting spectacles the SCG has seen this season.

Sydney supporters gathered at Swans Friendly Venue, The Light Brigade, before the match to get in the spirit for the Friday night football in Sydney.

The Light Brigade licensee Ryan Haynes said Friday night football always attracts plenty of fans.

“We always expect a big turn out from the Swans’ fans on Friday night games,” he said.

“Being the end of the week, everyone’s finishing up at work and they come in for a few beers and a bit of dinner before they head down to the game.

“They stay until generally 15-20 minutes before the game and some guys cut it a bit fine and don’t leave until five or ten minutes until the game, but most of them seem to make it in time.

“It’s great to see they spread the games out over the weekend, but it’s great to have one Friday night game just to mix things up a little bit.”

Unlucky Swans fans that weren’t prepared for the sell-out at Friday night’s game were also welcomed into The Light Brigade, who show all Swans games live throughout the AFL season.
