The Sydney Swans have informed Jenny Higgins, Sarah Ford, Jaide Anthony, Kiara Beesley and Kate Reynolds they will not be offered new contracts with the club for the 2024 season.
Reynolds joined the Sydney Swans AFLW side ahead of its inaugural season. The North Shore Bombers ruck made her debut in Round 2 but her time at the club was significantly impacted by injury, limiting her to just two games in the red and white.
Irish import Jennifer Higgins joined the club ahead of the 2023 season, having played 13 seasons of senior Gaelic Football with County Roscommon, while also representing Ireland in basketball at an underage level. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old sustained an ACL injury during a pre-season match, ruling her out for the season.
Beesley, a QBE Sydney Swans Academy product, played 4 senior games in the red and white in 2022 having played her local footy for Southern Power in the Sydney AFL competition. The defender suffered a knee injury this season which hindered her campaign for selection.
Ford arrived at the club in our inaugural season, playing two games for in the red and white. The 27-year-old didn’t feature on the field this year but played a pivotal support role to the team during the season.
Medium forward Jaide Anthony joined the Swans in 2022 from the Dandenong Stingrays, making her debut in Round 4. Anthony played three games in the red and white, but competition for selection saw her struggle to cement her spot in the side this season.
Sydney Swans General Manager of Football – AFLW, Kate Mahony, wished all five players the very best for their future endeavours.
“We thank Jenny, Sarah, Jaide, Kiara and Kate for their valuable contribution to the club,” said Mahony.
“This is one of the toughest parts of our job, where list management decisions have to be made.
“Each of these players had a role at this club and contributed to the fabric of our team. Whilst their path is taking a different direction, we thank them for their time in the red and white.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, we wish them all the very best for the future.”
