Season wrap with Jed Lamb
Jed Lamb speaks to sydneyswans.com.au about his debut season which was hampered by hamstring injuries, but saw him play some good footy in the reserves...
The Swans first selection in the 2010 Draft, Jed Lamb, had a frustrating debut season with the Swans.
While he played a few games with the Swans reserves, his season was cruelled by a series of hamstring injuries.
‘Choppy’, as teammates call him, spoke to sydneyswans.com.au about his first season in Sydney.
How have you found your first year at the Swans?
It’s been a massive learning curve coming from country Victoria, from a massive family. It’s been a huge change, but I’m looking forward to the next few years.
Has anything surprised you in your first year in the AFL?
The first few days are pretty daunting. Walking through the changerooms and seeing guys like Adam Goodes. After that, you just get used to it, but it’s a massive step up from Under 18s and country football. I love living in Sydney now and my housemates, Nick Smith and Sam Reid, are good fellas and look after me.
How do you sum up your year?
It probably hasn’t gone to plan. I missed about 14 weeks due to my hamstring injury. I thought I played okay footy before that, but it was frustrating getting injured. Hopefully I can have a big pre-season and come back flying.
Which teammates most impressed you this year?
There’s a few. Top of the list is Alex Johnson. He is a first year player as well and I played against him last year in the Under 18s. He was picked somewhere in the 50s in the draft, but he played about 20 games and really surprised me. Goodesy is in his 30’s and he is playing good footy. Gary Rohan came back from his injury and had a really big impact late in the season.
What areas do you need to improve on during the pre-season?
I’ll be doing a lot of running and trying to get as fit as possible when I come back. I think I need to put a bit more size on. I’m still fairly skinny, so I need to spend a bit of time in the gym over the pre-season and put some weight on.
