AS THE start of the AFL Dream Team season approaches, the AFL website's Dr Dream Team dissects Sydney's prospects, including a breakout on one player to watch closely.

TONY ARMSTRONG, DEF, $289,700
Watch him in the NAB Cup. Could be a unique find for your backline.

CRAIG BIRD, MID, $334,400
Expect him to average in the 60s.

JUDE BOLTON, MID, $447,200
Busts his gut every week for DT coaches and rarely lets them down.

ALEX BROWN, DEF, $98,700
Probably unlikely to see much senior action.

TRENT DENNIS-LANE, FWD, $168,200
Has shown some skill, but not as a Dream Team scorer. Pass.

ANDREJS EVERITT, DEF, $221,700
If he can establish himself in the line-up he could be worth a shot. Until then, no.

ADAM GOODES, FWD/MID, $491,000
The superstar Swan is capable of huge DT scores and retains his forward/midfielder standing. Buy.

NATHAN GORDON, MID, $175,600
Won’t command a spot in the midfield yet.

HEATH GRUNDY, DEF, $349,500
Not the worst option in defence. Expect him to score in the 70s most weeks.

DANIEL HANNEBERY, MID, $394,600
Could be the year he jumps up a few pegs to elite status. Should average 90 if fit.

KIEREN JACK, MID, $387,400
Shows a bit of DT potential but has yet to take the next step. This could be the year.

LEWIS JETTA, MID, $219,100
Too hit and miss for me.

ALEX JOHNSON, DEF, $274,000
Encouraging first season last year and should build on it to average 70.

JOSH KENNEDY, MID, $428,100
With another level of improvement, the ex-Hawk should be scoring 90s on a regular basis. Good choice.

JED LAMB, FWD, $104,200
Should get an opportunity to make his AFL debut this season.

JORDAN LOCKYER, DEF, $98,700
Has a few more experienced Swans ahead of him in the pecking order.

NICK MALCESKI, DEF, $329,300
The former DT star fell away last year but is cheap enough to consider if fit and in form.

MARTIN MATTNER, DEF, $301,100
Not a high-scoring Dream Team player.

BEN McGLYNN, FWD/MID, $378,800
Has some value and would be expected to average 80 next season. A good, versatile option.

JARRAD McVEIGH, MID, $435,300
Slightly expensive for his average.

BRETT MEREDITH, MID, $146,700
Not a regular member of the team yet.

TOM MITCHELL, MID, $98,700
An exciting prospect who might be the Dyson Heppell of this season. Get him.

JARRED MOORE, FWD, $189,600
Seemed to be slightly out of favour last season.

MITCH MORTON, FWD, $263,800
His last chance but has got fitter since his Tiger days. Watch early in the year.

SHANE MUMFORD, RUC, $452,400
On the surface, the bustling big man does not look like a great Dream Team player, but he provides points for his coaches. Of his 17 home and away games in 2011, he scored above 80 in 10 of them, including some huge totals (131, 146 and 135). Wins his fair share of hit-outs but also contributes at ground level.

RYAN O’KEEFE, FWD/MID, $460,900
Thought his best DT days were past him but I was wrong. Consistent quality forward.

LUKE PARKER, MID, $244,200
Surprise packet who pulled out some handy scores last season, but is pricey.

MIKE PYKE, RUC, $193,900
Not a Dream Team option.

SAM REID, FWD, $278,200
Will be a star of the competition and that improvement should be reflected in his Dream Team scores.

TED RICHARDS, DEF, $290,200
Love his courage, but unfortunately it does not win you DT points.

LEWIS ROBERTS-THOMSON, DEF, $228,300
Probably not a match-winning DT player.

GARY ROHAN, FWD, $226,800
If he can stay fit, Rohan’s stocks will rise dramatically. Watch closely.

MARK SEABY, RUC, $320,500
Might struggle to get many games if Mumford stays injury-free.

RHYCE SHAW, DEF, $325,800
A solid player who should score close to 70 most weeks.

NICK SMITH, DEF, $301,500
Quality defender who spends most of his energy stopping others. Not for the DT game.

MATT SPANGHER, FWD, $274,300
Has not yet consolidated his senior spot.

TOMMY WALSH, FWD, $104,200
Bargain. Will surely make his AFL debut and find a role in the Swans’ make-up.

JESSE WHITE, FWD, $216,700
Unless he can double his average of last year, it has to be a pass.
