Senior coach John Longmire has confirmed his team to take on Geelong at the SCG this Sunday. It’s set to be an exciting match for members and fans as the team return after a 16-day break.

Key defender Tom McCartin will re-join the 22 after suffering a concussion in Round 8 of the competition. He replaces Aaron Francis who played his role well for three tough games, including a hotly contested match with the Western Bulldogs.

This Sunday’s blockbuster is expected to be just a close. Speaking to Sydney Swans Media, Longmire said it’s set to be a challenge.

“It’s a really tough game… [Geelong] get some experience back this week and their young fellas have been playing well,” he noted.

“It's a really big test. We need to be making sure we're really on edge and playing well.”

The Cats sit in third place on the ladder with an 8-4 record but come in as underdogs ahead of this clash, despite winning 5 of the last 8 against the Swans. The last time the two sides met was in Round 16 of the 2023 season, coming away with a draw.

All eyes will be on the Swans midfield with Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner and Errol Gulden dominating the stats sheet in recent weeks. As well as Will Hayward who re-signed for five more years this week.

Sunday’s clash will come after a VFL curtain raiser from 11:35am in what is set to be a great showcase of our younger talent.

“It'd be great to see another huge crowd here at the SCG on Sunday,” Longmire added.

“It's terrific to see all the families here, all the kids. We can't wait to get out there in front of the red and white and hopefully put on a really good performance.”
