The Sydney Swans have enjoyed their best start to the season since 1936 with a 10-1 record following the mid-season bye. Speaking to Sydney Swans Media, senior coach John Longmire says that while it’s important to reflect on the year so far, he’s doing so with a forward-looking lens.

“There's always areas in our game that we can get better at,” Longmire said in an exclusive update for Premiership Club members, “but we’re also reinforcing some of the areas in our game that we've been strong at.

“We want to continue to do that in the second half of this season.”

One secret to their success? Team-first football.

“We've been really pleased with our players so far with our team-first football approach."

We've had that as a real strong mindset so far this season, and that's been a real positive for us.

Longmire added, “No matter who it is on our playing list, whether you're one of our more experienced players or just a young kid coming in, being able to come in and understand what the team needs to be competitive every week.”

Assistant coach Dean Cox echoed this sentiment in an earlier interview, citing Justin McInerney as a standout. He added that his versatility afforded the 23-year-old the ability to play any role.

“He is probably one that we’ve been really impressed with,” Cox noted.

“His ability to not only play multiple roles, whether it’s half-forward, on-ball, wing or half-back at times, but the real team-first approach.”

The team are preparing for a challenging top-four clash with Geelong this long weekend at the SCG. Tune in on Sunday, June 9 from 3:20pm.
