The 2024 Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys kick off this weekend with the QBE Sydney Swans Academy taking on the GWS Giants Academy in game one of their campaign.

Coach Shane McGahan will lead the team in his first U16 nationals after being promoted to the position earlier in the year. He had previously coached the U15 boys in the Academy's Top End program.

The championships will feature 10 teams competing across two pools, with the Swans in Pool B alongside the Brisbane Lions Academy, Gold Coast Suns Academy, GWS Giants Academy, Northern Territory and Tasmania. Pool A will feature four teams, including South Australia, Victoria Country, Victoria Metro and Western Australia.

The first round of fixtures will see matches played across four states, with all matches in the final two rounds to be played on the Gold Coast from July 8 to 12 during the school holidays.
