A much-improved North Melbourne head to the SCG on Saturday afternoon to take on the Sydney Swans in Round 18, on the back of an impressive four-point win over the Gold Coast.

It was a mature performance from the Kangaroos who smashed the Suns in clearances 45-29 and had some huge ball winners on the day. Colby McKercher (37 disposals) and Harry Sheezel (35 disposals) led the way for the home side in the victory, while Nick Larkey was strong up forward with three goals.

The Kangaroos travel to Sydney still sitting in 17th position on the ladder with just the two wins for the season but their improvement has been stark. George Wardlaw returns for the clash against the top side, while Will Phillips has been omitted.

For the Swans, captain Callum Mills returns to the side for the first time in 2024 after off-season shoulder surgery, replacing the suspended Isaac Heeney. Defender Harry Cunningham remains on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

The last time these two sides met it was a lot closer than many predicted, with the Swans narrowly winning by three points in Round 10 last season at Marvel Stadium.

On that occasion Bailey Scott had 33 disposals for the Kangaroos while veteran Luke Parker was best for the Swans with 28 of his own and a goal.

Ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash in the Harbour City, North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson said he’s excited to welcome Wardlaw back into the fold.

"(Wardlaw) has had a couple of games out, it was really unfortunate (the concussion) was on a Thursday and the 12-day protocol covered two games," Clarkson said.

“That’s just stiff, but he’s good to go, so it will be good to have him back in the side.
