The Sydney Swans are proud to support the ARA First Nations Foundations program, aimed at participation and involvement of First Nations people across the game. This week several athletes were celebrated in development and competitive opportunities.
Taya White, who hails from Newcastle, played in the U18 Allies team against Queensland at the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships, stealing the win 8.3 (51) to 5.6 (36)
Meanwhile in Brisbane the Woomeras showcased Emily Hollingsworth from Shellharbour and Myla Tucker from Newcastle in a game against the Medleys team. The Woomeras triumphed over the Medleys by 29 points (Woomeras 9.10.64 to Medleys 5.5.35).
The Woomeras squad is made up of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, while the Medleys squad comprises players with a parent born outside of Australia.
Closing out NAIDOC Week the AFL NSW/ACT U14/15 Boys Indigenous and Multicultural camp took place on July 12 to 14. Throughout the camp the boys developed their footy skills through elite coaching, as well as participated in cultural, educational and wellbeing sessions.
11 of the selected 23 players in the Indigenous team came from the ARA First Nations Foundations program.
