Senior coach Scott Gowans has confirmed his team in preparation for the third AFLW Sydney Derby. The Sydney Swans and GWS Giants will clash on Henson Park this Sunday, with the red and white returning to the iconic ground for the first time this season.

20-year-old Cynthia Hamilton is an important in for the side after she was sidelined with a quad injury in Round 3. Speaking to Sydney Swans Media, Gowans said she'll bring a sense of aggression on the field.

"She brings a lot to our forward line, and she's just able to bring that forward pressure which we missed a little bit last week," the senior coach said.

"She brings a lot of voice, has a high footy IQ and so we expect her to use that as well."

The team also gain Ruby Sargent-Wilson and Lisa Steane who will run out for the first time this season. Sargent-Wilson played five games in the 2023 season while 29-year-old Steane played all 12 matches.

"They bring a bit of experience. We felt we needed a bit more experience, and particularly with Lisa. She can play on the wing and then down back as well... she'll be bringing a bit of speed and a bit of rebound for us now."

QBE Sydney Swans Academy product Holly Cooper will appear in her second game after making her debut in Round 3 against Richmond.

Sydney Swans v GWS GIANTS

Week 4

Henson Park, Sydney • NSW

The Swans kicked off the 2024 NAB AFLW season in strong fashion, with a win over Collingwood at North Sydney Oval. The following two matches against seasoned sides have produced plenty of learnings for the young playing group. Both Sydney and GWS will be playing for their second win.

Gowans stressed that this week's focus will be putting together a four-quarter performance.

"We've got to get our game going. We've played bits and pieces throughout the games so far, and just haven't been able to put four quarters together. So we want to do that, but we're well aware that the giants are in great form, and credit to them, they've done very well."

Gates to Henson Park will open from 1:00pm on Sunday afternoon. Gowans said the team is looking forward to seeing the hill packed with red and white.

"There's nothing better than when the hill is full at Henson Park and the noise they make is really supportive of the girls, and we appreciate that very much."
