In 2024 Amon Buchanan stepped into the role of assistant coach under Dean Cox after two years as an AFL development coach, mentoring 1st – 3rd year players.
The former Sydney Swans forward played in the red and white between 2000 and 2009 before a three-year stint at the Brisbane Lions. Recruited from Colac and the Geelong Falcons, Buchanan made his AFL debut in Round 11 of the 2002 season.
After 134 senior games over 11 years, the 2005 premiership player retired from AFL football in 2012 and served as a coach in the QBE Sydney Swans Academy for 12 months.
Buchanan joined the coaching panel at the GWS Giants as a development coach in 2013, before roles as the midfield and stoppage coach between 2017 and 2022.
Amon will be responsible for the Sydney Swans forward line and offensive ball movement.
