Key defender Lewis Melican and emerging ruckman Will Green have recommitted to the Sydney Swans, keeping them in the red and white until at least 2027.
Melican, who has played 84 games since debuting in 2017, has extended for two more seasons, while Green had added one more year onto his existing contract.
Melican was originally taken with pick 52 in the 2014 rookie draft and had his most consistent season of football in 2024, playing 24 games as a key pillar in defence.
The 28-year-old said he’s excited to continue his journey with the Swans.
“I’ve been at the club since I was 18, and had some ups and downs along the way, but the fact the club has backed me and wants to give me a few more years is exciting,” Melican said. “It’s a great feeling to know that this is where I get to keep playing footy.”
Green said his contract extension has come at a good time.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here at the Swans since being drafted, so to sign on again is a really good feeling,” Green said.
Sydney Swans Executive General Manager Football – AFL, Leon Cameron, said he is thrilled for the pair.
“Lewis has shown over his career just how resilient he is, so this extension is a great reward for all of his hard work,” Cameron said.
“He played his best and most consistent season for us last year and was a really important player in defence, so I look forward to seeing what the next couple of years will bring.”
Green, who was taken with the Swans first pick in the 2023 draft, played 18 VFL games in his first season in the red and white.
“We believe Will has the potential to be a really good AFL ruckman for us,” Cameron said.
“He has had an outstanding pre-season, so extending until 2027 gives him every opportunity to develop his craft going forward.”
