The Sydney Swans Foundation has officially launched its 20th anniversary celebrations, bringing together donors and benefactors at Sydney Swans HQ – the Richard Colless Basil Sellers Centre – to recognise more than two decades of dedication to the club’s future.
Guests of the evening included Foundation chair Peter Ivany, premiership player and Sydney Swans Foundation Ambassador, Josh Kennedy, senior coach Dean Cox and new AFL development coach Adam Kennedy.
The Foundation was established in 2005 to support the development of young football talent through the creation of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. Since then, its scope has expanded significantly.
“The launch of the Swans Academy in 2009 was another pivotal moment in the Foundation," Tony Morwood shared.
“Fans were keen to see the development of young footballers in NSW improve and for the Swans to benefit – donors were keen to support this initiative.” Morwood added.
Through generous support from our donors, the Foundation has driven major capital projects, including the state-of-the-art training facility and soon-to-be-completed Museum. It has also championed innovation and competitive advantage, funding initiatives like an embedded PhD researcher within the AFLW program.
Thanks to the support of our generous donors, benefactors and advocates, the Foundation continues to invest in the strategic development of an elite talent pathway in the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, equipping young athletes with the skills to thrive on the field and in the community.
Anniversary celebrations will continue throughout 2025 and include the opening of the Sydney Swans Museum, and the Foundation’s annual fundraising lunch in June.
