Swans senior coach Dean Cox says his side is sticking to the process when it comes to tweaking its game style this season.

In this month's exclusive update for Sydney Swans Premiership Club members, Senior Coach Dean Cox discussed his side's focus ahead of its clash with North Melbourne, his assessment of the first three matches and who has impressed him so far.

Cox said the side would continue to work on adjustments to their game style ahead of Saturday night.

"I think one thing we need to do is to consolidate a lot of the way we want to play, there's been some tweaks, but we want to make sure we can get back into a position to have a really strong focus on making those adjustments," Cox said.

"We want to slowly grow on our game style - that's a focus with obviously still a strong look at what the opposition do."

"For North Melbourne, their midfield, the way they can generate ball through that area around the clearance and contest has been really good this year, they've improved dramatically across all phases of the game and showed against some really good teams how damaging they can be."

The Swans notched their first win of the season in Round 2, with the Round 3 bye presenting Cox the opportunity to review the side's first three performances.

"We've played some really good football teams, we've been in all those games and unfortunately we were short in two of them but I thought the boys were really gutsy winning against Fremantle away from home," Cox said.

"We've had a bit of a look at a three-week block and what's come out of that is our inconsistencies in our contests, a couple of the teams we've played have been the best in that from previous years, so that's always somewhere we need to aspire to be.

"I think the way we've defended has allowed us to stay in games for long periods and now it's about tweaking our attack to make sure that when we get those opportunities, we can hurt teams the other way."

Cox praised the club's debutants and younger players for stepping up in the absence of some key Swans who have been missing due to injury.

"I think being able to play debutantes for the footy club is a really important thing, obviously Tommy Hanily and Riley Bice, being young kids that come into the AFL system and to get their opportunity so early in the season, they've deserved that and they've performed really well and that's why they're still playing," Cox said.

"Then you've got one on the other spectrum in Joel Hamling who's taken a little bit longer at the footy club to make his debut but he's been really important for us.

"Along with Corey Warner taking his opportunity and Braeden Campbell, off an interrupted pre-season, he has been really strong and starting to build really nicely into the season."
