It is all systems go for Swans coach John Longmire.
Longmire this week described just how much the anticipation for the new season and build up to Saturday’s round one clash against a now full-strength Essendon had intensified.
“It was 8am at work (yesterday) and I was going through the processes,” Longmire said.
“It was strap yourself in, the season is about to start obviously because of the anticipation of what lies ahead but uncertainty of what will occur.
“What we do know we’re about to start a ride of ups and downs as players, coaches and supporters.”
With the countdown well and truly on, that familiar air of excitement has not only returned but was peaking as the team underwent final preparations for the season opener at ANZ Stadium.
Preparation includes a training session this afternoon and another run around on Thursday where Lance Franklin (concussion), Kieren Jack (abdomen), Jarrad McVeigh (calf) and Kurt Tippett (knee) are expected to prove their fitness.
The clash will hold an extra special significance with Longmire expected to mark his 100th appearance as senior coach.
The milestone elevates Longmire to equal 34th on the list of all-time games coached, joining former Fremantle coach and now Essendon assistant Mark Harvey in the 100 club.
Instead of focusing on the personal honour Longmire said it will be business as usual.
“It’s not really my go…I didn’t even realise until a couple of weeks ago when someone bought it up,” he said.
“It’s not usually about the coach, it’s always about the players and how we perform and there won’t be any change to that in that regard.”
