Sydney Swans premiership hero Leo Barry could return to the club in an official capacity, after being nominated for the vacancy on the club’s Board. 

Earlier this week chairman Andrew Pridham announced long-serving director Rob Pascoe will retire at February’s Annual General Meeting.

Following the announcement, Swans greats Peter Bedford and Paul Kelly nominated Leo Barry, who played 237 games for Sydney from 1995-2009.

The dual All-Australian will forever be remembered for his match-saving mark in the 2005 AFL Grand Final.

Barry, who now works as a stockbroker for Fairview Equity Partners, has told The Age that vacancies on the Swans Board are rare – so it would only be fitting for him to leap at the opportunity.

“Having spent 15 years there as a player I obviously have a very fond memory and a passion for the footy club … the opportunity to be involved, and have another influence, and maybe help the club off the field was something I was always attracted to,” he said.

Sydney Swans ordinary members and Life Members who have paid their 2019 membership are eligible to nominate for the vacancy. Candidates must be nominated by two eligible members before the deadline on December 16, 2019.
