A season-high 12 goal-kickers joined forces as the Sydney Swans stormed to a 58-point win over the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday afternoon – and first-year draftee Sam Wicks says it was the side’s long list of contributors that set up the Swans for victory.

Sydney had averaged eight goal-kickers per match over the opening seven rounds of the season, before five-goal hero Daniel Menzel headlined a string of 12 goal-kickers in Saturday’s Metricon Stadium clash.

“It’s really good that a lot of our players are contributing each and every week,” Wicks told SwansTV.

“Everyone played their role on the weekend and it was great that a lot of the boys could get on the end of a few goals.

“Our hit in the midfield was also really good all day. James Rowbottom and James Rose really set the tone for us and it was a really good team effort. Everyone played their role and we got a good win up there."

Wicks progressed from the QBE Sydney Swans Academy and on to the club’s AFL list alongside Nick Blakey ahead of season 2019.

Along with names like Matt Ling, Joel Amartey, Toby Pink and James Bell, Wicks is among a host of young Swans dreaming of reaching the bright lights of the AFL.

The Manly Warringah Giants junior has slotted nine goals in seven appearances this season, and although he calls the forward line home, he also buoys the second-placed Swans in the midfield.

“I love playing in the midfield,” Wicks said.

“I played there as a junior mostly so I’m comfortable playing in that position and I really enjoy playing there.”
