In a boost for the Sydney Swans George Hewett and Jarrad McVeigh are both expected to be in the frame to take on Geelong on Saturday afternoon.

Hewett left the field with concussion during the third quarter of Friday night’s loss to Collingwood and did not return.

Head of Football Charlie Garinder said he expects the midfielder to be right to take his place in the side this weekend.

“George had a heavy knock in the game against Collingwood on Friday night,” Gardiner said.

“He went off, was tested for concussion and failed the test so he couldn’t come back onto the ground, but he has pulled up really well from the game.

“We think he will come up to play this week against Geelong.”

McVeigh’s return would be a welcome addition to the side after missing seven weeks with a quad strain suffered against Carlton earlier in the year.

“Jarrad has been training with the squad for the last week, and assuming he gets through training this week, we think he will be available for selection,” Gardiner said.

“It’s great to have an experienced player like Jarrad back available.”

Dan Menzel continues to push his case for a debut in the red and white after a five goal second half in the NEAFL on the weekend.

Gardiner said he expects Menzel to be considered for a senior call up later in the week.

“He (Menzel) kicked three goals in his first outing and then another five in the second half on the weekend, so he is pressing hard for a return to senior football,” Gardiner said.

“I am sure his name will come up for consideration at match committee this week.”

Meanwhile, co-captain Josh Kennedy will likely miss the next three weeks after suffering a strain to his medial ligament in the match against Collingwood.
