Sydney Swans speedster Harry Cunningham will always cherish marking his 50th and 100th AFL games with wins at the SCG – and the 25-year-old hopes to create many more unforgettable memories at the glorified venue.

Cunningham and his teammates will be on the look-out for a night to treasure as the Swans square off with the Adelaide Crows in Round 2 at the SCG on Friday.

The Wagga Wagga-born Swan collected 18 possessions and three goals as Sydney celebrated his 50th match with a 63-point win over the Gold Coast Suns in Round 23, 2015, before he gathered 18 touches in a thrilling two-point victory over Collingwood in his 100th appearance.

His milestone match against the Magpies fell in Round 20 last year, with the 100th anniversary of South Melbourne’s 1918 premiership win over Collingwood, and former Swan Alex Johnson’s long-awaited return from injury, adding to a storied night.

Cunningham is now primed to return to the SCG off the back of a career-best 2018 season, and he wants to enjoy many more fond moments at the Moore Park venue.

“I’m first of all looking forward to getting our first win of the season against the Crows on Friday. But it’s always great be able to play in front of our fans at the SCG, so hopefully we can create a few more great memories here going forward,” Cunningham told SwansTV.

“It’s hard to explain but when you’ve got 40,000 people here in red and white cheering you on and trying to make the SCG a fortress, it’s very special to be able to play in front of them. We play for our footy club and we play for our fans, so to be able to play in front of a packed house is pretty special.”

Of the four times Cunningham has faced Adelaide, Sydney has won two and lost two.

The Swans have claimed victory in six of the past eight encounters with the Crows, but Adelaide clawed a 10-point win at the SCG in Round 5 last year when the clubs last met

Star names like Rory Sloane, Bryce Gibbs, Matt and Brad Crouch and ruckman Sam Jacobs buoy the Crows’ midfield, while dangerous forwards Eddie Betts, Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Tom Lynch are imposing forces inside 50.

All Australian defenders Daniel Talia, Rory Laird and Brodie Smith are the key pillars of a strong back six, while half-back flanker Paul Seedsman tallied 26 disposals and a goal to earn one Brownlow vote as the Swans and Crows did battle in Round 5 last year.

The Swans boast plenty of firepower themselves, with All Australian representatives Lance Franklin, Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker, Jarrad McVeigh and Dane Rampe all in line to burst through the banner.

Cunningham says Sydney is set for a tough challenge.

“They’ve got strong players across the board. They’ve got a very strong defence, a very strong midfield and plenty of forwards that can kick goals,” Cunningham said.

“They can also win the footy at the contest and get it forward. They’ve got some big key forwards who can bring it to ground, and they’ve got some small forwards that get to work.

“So we’re expecting a strong performance from Adelaide across the board, and we’ll have to match their intensity and better it to get the win on Friday.”
