Sydney Swans Chairman Andrew Pridham has been recognised for his distinguished service to sporting groups, the investment banking and asset management sector and philanthropy, by being named an Officer (OA) of the Order of Australia (General Division) by the Governor-General on Australia Day.
Pridham was appointed Chairman of the Sydney Swans in 2013, after serving on the Club’s board since 2002.
Under his leadership, the Swans have seen record growth in membership, sponsorship, its fan base has grown to 1.2 million supporters and the Swans have competed in five Grand Finals, winning two premierships.
Off the field, Pridham has played an integral role in the development of AFL in New South Wales, helping to establish the QBE Sydney Swans Academy boys and girls programs, while the Swans have secured its future in its heartland, signing a 30-year lease to play all home games at the SCG, and just last year announced plans for the Sydney Swans HQ & Community Centre at the Royal Hall of Industries.
The Royal Hall of Industries will be restored and preserved and will be home to the Sydney Swans, the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, a future Sydney Swans AFLW side, the NSW Swifts, GO Foundation, Clontarf Foundation and Australian Red Cross Blood Service Donor Centre.
Away from football, Pridham is a highly successful investment banker, currently as Chief Executive Officer of Moelis Australia. Prior to his appointment as CEO in 2009, he was Executive Chairman of Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan Australasia.
He has also been a benefactor and supporter of a number of Australian charities and education and arts services, including the GO Foundation, Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation, University of South Australia, Art Gallery of NSW, among others.
Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley congratulated Pridham on his achievement.
“It’s a fitting recognition for Andrew to be named an Officer (OA) of the Order of Australia (General Division) and a well-deserved honour,” Harley said.
“Andrew has not only played a key role in the development of AFL in New South Wales, but he’s also contributed significantly to the arts, education, charity and business sectors.
“On behalf of everyone at the Sydney Swans, we congratulate Andrew for his profound impact and his Order of Australia honour.”
Pridham wasn’t the only Swans representative to be acknowledged on Australia Day, with ambassador and actor John Derum honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his significant service to the performing arts as an actor, director and administrator, and to the community.
Long-time Swans supporter Luke Mangan was honoured with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his service to tourism and hospitality, while fellow supporter John McMurtie, Managing Director of Link Group, was also honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia.
